Mixing Decks 18th Birthday Cake

Last week I made a mixing decks cake for an 18th birthday party. James' Mum got in touch after speaking to a friend who I've made cakes for before and asked if I could make a cake in the style of a set of decks as her son loves them!

Despite these being very detailed, I jumped at the chance to do something so unique and set to work on my plan!

There were 36 buttons, 8 knobs, 3 dials, 2 round mixers and lots of detailed piped writing both on the cake itself and the individual buttons.

The two round mixers either side of the cake were also made out of chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream before being covered in black sugarpaste.

The 8 dials were airbrushed with silver paint before a black stripe of sugarpaste was attached down the side of each one.

James' Mum & Sister co-ordinated the delivery as it was a surprise for him and their reaction was great with Amanda welling up and her daughter screaming!

I loved making this cake, after lots of prep work, it really came to life very quickly in the assembly!

Beautiful Chanel Cupcakes

Last week was a very busy one for me and today I'm shattered so am going to have a day of sorting things out, catching up on admin, blogging, replying to e-mails etc with lots of tea and maybe even some cake!!

So the first order from last week was a dozen vanilla bean cupcakes decorated in the style of Chanel for a girl who was turning 18 and has a love for all things designer!

I decided to stick with classic Chanel colours to keep it pretty and girly with pale pinks, pearl white, gold and black and I LOVE the way they turned out.

I did four different designs, one being the classic Chanel logo in black surrounded by white pearls.

The second design was a white quilted top with a pretty black bow with gold pearls.

I also did a pale pink quilted top with a black Chanel shoulder bag with the Chanel logo on the front in gold.

The final design was a beautiful pearl white flower with a gold pearl centre on a pale pink top adorned with  a circle of tiny gold pearls.

I love these cupcakes and so did the customer, Happy birthday Emmelia! x

Stunning "Simply Naked" Cake!

A few weeks ago now I drive up to Northumberland to deliver the wedding cake for a lovely couple, childhood sweethearts Ailsa & Stephen.

They got married at the fabulous (and I can't stress that enough) Newton Hall on the wonderful Northumberland Coast. Despite the weather being dreadful in the run up to the wedding, the day of the wedding itself brought some beautiful sunshine, so much so that my friend and I (freelance makeup artist Siobhan McGurk) went for a pub lunch after setting up and actually sat outside!

There were a huge amount of beautiful and pretty finishing touches to this wedding, the website pictures really don't do it justice so if you're looking for a wedding venue up in the North East, it's worth popping in to have a look for yourself!

Now to the cake, Ailsa and Stephen fell in love with the Simply Naked cake from the Simply Antoinette range but instead of the traditional Victoria Sponge with Raspberry Jam & Vanilla Buttercream, they opted for three tiers of Luscious Lemon Cake with Lemon Curd Buttercream (my favourite!).

We also personalised this cake with the colours, originally this was designed with bright reds & pinks with roses, strawberries & raspberries.

As Ailsa had chosen deep purples, pale lilacs and beautiful baby's breath, I used these to decorate the cake along with raspberries & blackberries to create a stunning version of the Simply Naked cake.

I always tell Brides & Grooms how easy it is to personalise the Simply Range by changing small details and colours and this really is a great example of that!

I fell in love with the venue and the cake and can't wait to see some more pictures taken by a wonderful Newcastle-based photographer Greg Hails.

Congratulations Ailsa & Stephen!!

Upsy Daisy Cake!

Another cake I recently made was for a little girl called Grace who was celebrating her 2nd birthday!

Grace is a massive fan of In The Night Garden and especially Upsy Daisy so her Mum and I decided to make something s little different from all of the other Upsy Daisy cakes that have been done before and came up with a design that consisted of the cake being Upsy Daisy's bed with a gorgeous Upsy Daisy character sitting on the bed.

From the curved foot and head of the bed, to the gorgeous pillow, the pretty daisy blanket and the flowers & butterflies, this cake was a whole heap of girly prettiness!!

Something Special Mr Tumble Cake!

A few weeks ago I was asked to make a Mr Tumble themed cake for a Mr Tumble-Obsessed 2 year old by the name of Harry!

As Harry's parents were throwing quite a large party for Harry which was full of adults and children, we went for a two tier cake (vanilla and chocolate flavours) decorated in lovely bright colours!

The bottom tier was decorated like Mr Tumble's drum with the top tier continuing the bold colour scheme with a lovely name plate and lots of stars!

On top of the cake sat a Mr Tumble character with his spotty bag as well as a set of wired stars bursting out of the cake!

I really enjoy making kids cakes as they're always so colourful and a lot of fun. Harry and his parents loved this cake and I loved it too!
